Pride of Britain Awards

Everyone Needs a Buddy

Simon Cowell was assured of a great Irish welcome when he comes to Dungannon to meet the children with cerebral palsy at the Buddy Bear Trust School.

Simon saw photographs and leaflets about the children at the Buddy Bear School in Dungannon during our long discussion with him at the Pride of Britain Awards.

Simon was very impressed with the determination of the children to improve and of the sacrifices of the parents made to take the children to the school as they receive no grants or support from the Education Authority.

Simon was impressed when he saw the signatures, which included the Church and political leaders including the late Dr Ian Paisley, formal First Minister and the late John Paul II as well as Prime Minister David Cameron on our Triangle of Hope photograph.

Simon offered to add his signature and support to the famous photograph, which helped to launch the campaign  to bring Conductive Education to the children of Ireland suffering from cerebral palsy.

Simon was invited to come to Dungannon to sign the photograph and to meet the children and some of the many supporters of the charity.

We are currently trying to arrange for a visit to be scheduled into Simon’s busy timetable.

We were very impressed that Simon gave us so much time to talk about the needs of the children, the stresses of the parents, to our hopes to expand the school and his down to earth manner in talking to us bearing in mind that he is a super star who has helped to change the lives of those who appear on the X-Factor.

A hundred thousand welcomes await Simon when he comes to Dungannon.

It was a great opportunity to inform the many celebrities whom we met of the generosity of the people, schools, firms and foundations that have helped Buddy Bear Trust to change the lives of children disabled by cerebral palsy. Without their financial support we would not have been able to provide Conductive Education to children over the last 25 years.

All of the celebrities were very impressed with the generosity of the people of Northern Ireland and the progress made by so many children over the years in the Buddy Bear Trust School.

We asked some of the celebrities to visit the children at the Buddy Bear Trust Conductive Education School in Dungannon to see at first hand the progress the children have made thanks to Conductive Education.

Some of the celebrities could identify with the stress and anxiety of parents of children with cerebral palsy as they had family experiences of children with special needs either in their extended families or friends.
